Yesterday I had the opportunity to participate in yet another wonderful Kinette Club of Calgary event; the third annual Golf for Girls Tournament. This charity event was held at River Spirit Golf Club (27 km West of Calgary) in support of Sonshine Community Services. Hand in hand, this beautiful 27 hole golf course that is nestled on the edge of the Rocky Mountains and this amazing cause that provides a safe place for victims of domestic violence (as well as many other services) came together for an unforgettable day of golf, giving back, and good times.
But we were not alone…
Each golf foursome was joined by some of Canada’s amazing Olympians and athletes that came out to show their support as well as 7 time Canadian Long Drive champion, Lisa “Long-ball” Vlooswyk. The energy of over 90 women filled the room as we kicked off the day making new friends, meeting some terrific athletes and listening to some valuable tips from Lisa “Long-ball”.
Our Foursome was my fellow Kinette Pat, her friend Bonnie, John Morris (Olympic Curler) and myself. We played the “Spirit” nine and had a blast. John was so wonderful to golf with and we all spent the day laughing and having so much fun.
As great as the day was whats more important is that $14,000 was raised for an amazing cause.
All the proceeds will go to help build a specialized daycare at Sonshine Family Services for the kids
who have sadly had to witness domestic violence.
In 2013, ONE MILLION Canadian kids alone will be affected.
Special thanks to Lisa Bowes from CTV and Heather Dougall from our very own Kinette Club for putting this day together. I am already looking forward to Golf For Girls 2014!
