It looks as thought Spring may be here after all. This past weekend we hit record high temperatures that brought smiles to many people’s faces~ Its amazing how the warmer weather seems to lift everyone’s spirits and bring pure happiness and enjoyment to many activities. Enjoying a cold beverage on a patio, walking a dog, going for a run, wearing shorts, sandals and sunglasses; everywhere I went there were people out and about, all smiling and loving life!
We decided that we would also take full advantage of the gorgeous weather and went out and bought ourselves some patio furniture for our balcony. There has been a lot of debate on which set we were going to purchase as our balcony is very long but isn’t very wide. We went with 6 piece set; circular table, four chairs with cushions and an umbrella. Part of our balcony is covered so I don’t think that we will actually use the umbrella but it may come in handy for the part that is uncovered…
Since Tyler was busy studying for an exam he has coming up, I thought I would surprise him and get the furniture all set up so we could enjoy Sunday evening outside. (Quite a job for one woman!) I had help hauling the boxes up two flights of stairs before I was left on my own to construct the four chairs and table.
Here’s how it turned out…
Perfect weekend accomplishment!
Looking forward to spending some warm summer nights out here…stay tuned
for the first BBQ of the year and my DIY flower pots~
How did you spend your weekend???
This weekend along with going on our first date in our year of dates ( you can read more about that here…) we also had our first housewarming party! Our condo is about 900 sq feet and so we decided that instead of throwing one big party that would be uncomfortable and crowded in a smaller space we would host several “mini” house-warmings for our family and friends. To get the part(ies) started we decided to invite two other couples over for dinner and drinks with the possibility of hitting 17th ave after. We live in a really trendy area in Calgary just off 17th ave SW nicknamed “The Red Mile” that is filled with pubs, restaurants and plenty of nightlife so it makes it easy to head out for a few drinks on a Saturday night.
Since Spring has refused to cooperate outside so I thought I would bring Spring inside!
I found these lovely Pussy Willows,
This past weekend was a very busy one for us! It included spending time with family and friends, hosting our first dinner party and a night out in Banff to top it all off! Spring is definitely here (for now) and it won’t be long until we are out on the golf courses!
As I mentioned, this was our very first (of many to come) dinner parties that we hosted. Decorating and entertaining is something that I absolutely love to do and its nice that we finally have our own space where we can enjoy the company of our friends and family. Before we moved we had a mish mash of dishes and cutlery so our splurge for the new place was new *matching* dinnerware. We fell in love with this collection from Crate&Barrel; it’s called Myro and it is hand painted and made in Portugal. As you know from my previous post, this dining room set and china cabinet were my parents and are nearly 30 years old so I wanted to add a modern touch to the table and used my dishes as inspiration. I transformed our dull dining room into a Spring fling!
It’s hard to believe that we have been in our home for a month already! After countless trips up and down the elevator, packing and unpacking boxes galore and organizing and reorganizing and reorganizing again….I think we are finally settled! Last weekend we moved in our dining room table and china cabinet and my Thursday night project was to get it all unwrapped and into the cabinet.
This set of china is very special and dear to my heart as it was my mothers. It’s the Old Country Rose Pattern from Royal Albert and she started collecting it shortly after her and my father were married in 1978. The dining room set was also my parents and is antique elegance at its finest!
Since there are so many of you who won’t actually be able to come over and “warm” our house with us… here is a virtual tour of our humble abode. I must apologize for the delay in getting these up as we have slowly been getting settled. There are still a few things that need to be purchased, put up and placed so please excuse my barren walls and pile of boxes…Pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy~!
I L.O.V.E weekends!
Especially long weekends jam-packed of full of non stop fun and pure laziness…
Can you believe that it was 13*C (55*F) here on Friday? Can you say beers on the patio after work?? Well, actions speak louder than words and we took full advantage of our trendy neighborhood and hit up National patio for a few bevvies on such a sunny wonderful day.
Best Fish Tacos EVER~!
Our first weekend in our new home!
We have unpacked almost all of the boxes and reorganized things mmmm I’d say about 50 times…okay, maybe not quite that many times, but it sure feels like it! All unpacking aside, we did find some time this weekend to put our feet up to relax and enjoy being at home.
On Saturday, along with a lovely bouquet Pink Asiatic Lillies, I was greeted with homemade cinnamon french toast with fresh strawberries and maple syrrup…this was a wonderful and delicious surprise! These lillies are my favorite! They smell so delicious every time I walk by them I get into a Spring mood. Tyler always buys them with only one in bloom so that they last longer and I am always greeted by one or two more that bloom everyday.
Its been a long five weeks since we signed our official documents and purchased our condo. Five weeks of packing, cleaning, purging, emailing and signing…four days of being in limbo, three full vehicles of stuff, two broken dishes and one fight (over putting together our Ikea desk)…
we are finally in!!
It’s interesting how a persons story changes as they go through life. Two years ago, I was pretty content living in Stony Plain working at a great office as a dental assistant, surrounded by friends and family and a very comfortable life.
Then I met Tyler…
