I truly cannot believe that the last weekend of summer 2013 has come and gone. Kids are back to school today, the days are getting shorter and the chilly mornings of Autumn are among us. I must say that I did not plan on being away from the blog for all of August but when summer calls one must be ready to answer.
The other night Tyler and I were watching a program on National Geographic called“The 80’s: The Decade that Made Us” ; a mini series taking us through the decade that we both grew up in. From iconic pop stars like Madonna, fashion trends such as Jane Fonda’s spandex and Member’s Only Jackets to entrepreneurs such as Steve Jobs and Ted Turner (who created CNN and the idea of 24 hour news) and finally, Ronald Reagan’s U.S Presidency and the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, the 80’s were definitely a time for the people.
Monday again?? How did that happen? Chalk it up to another busy weekend celebrating the marriage of our wonderful friends Danielle and Chad!
This wedding was outdoors at the Dennis’ family cabin northeast of Edmonton, AB and I must say that all the hard work and planning that Danielle and co. put into this event really paid off. This was an amazing wedding with all the details and decor to go along with it. It fit Danielle’s personality to a tee!
I met Danielle when I was 15 years old. We played on the same softball team for a few years and were instant friends. We lost touch for a few years and it wasn’t until I took a trip around the world and ended up back in Edmonton that we were reunited again through playing ball. Danielle and I have always had a lot of fun together and she is one of the most energetic, outgoing wonderful gals that I know. She is the kind of friend that I don’t have to talk to everyday and no matter how long its been we always seem to pick up right where we left off.
I am so lucky to have this girl in my corner and am so happy that we could spend the day celebrating with her and her hubs!!
Congrats my wonderful friend!
All the best to you both for a wonderful marriage!
Here I am into my 29th year ( I will be turning 29 for the next 10 years FYI!) and I can honestly say that the older I get the more fun and exciting life seems to be. Although I had hoped to spend my 29th birthday in Vegas, I can honestly say that this was the next best thing and one of the best birthday parties I have ever had! Continue reading
This weekend along with going on our first date in our year of dates ( you can read more about that here…) we also had our first housewarming party! Our condo is about 900 sq feet and so we decided that instead of throwing one big party that would be uncomfortable and crowded in a smaller space we would host several “mini” house-warmings for our family and friends. To get the part(ies) started we decided to invite two other couples over for dinner and drinks with the possibility of hitting 17th ave after. We live in a really trendy area in Calgary just off 17th ave SW nicknamed “The Red Mile” that is filled with pubs, restaurants and plenty of nightlife so it makes it easy to head out for a few drinks on a Saturday night.
I am in utter shock that it is April 11th today! I can’t even say where the past two months have gone because they have been an absolute rollercoaster, merry-go-round whirlwind! Just to give you an update from some of my previous posts…I went back and re-read somethings (the joys of having a blog) and realized that I may have left you hanging a bit.
When I started this blog seven months ago I had no idea what to expect and no idea what “blogging” actually was. I figured this would be something that I would do for a short time until the next thing came along. Little did I know what a community of support and information existed in the blogging world and how much I would be inspired to write.
This past weekend was a very busy one for us! It included spending time with family and friends, hosting our first dinner party and a night out in Banff to top it all off! Spring is definitely here (for now) and it won’t be long until we are out on the golf courses!
As I mentioned, this was our very first (of many to come) dinner parties that we hosted. Decorating and entertaining is something that I absolutely love to do and its nice that we finally have our own space where we can enjoy the company of our friends and family. Before we moved we had a mish mash of dishes and cutlery so our splurge for the new place was new *matching* dinnerware. We fell in love with this collection from Crate&Barrel; it’s called Myro and it is hand painted and made in Portugal. As you know from my previous post, this dining room set and china cabinet were my parents and are nearly 30 years old so I wanted to add a modern touch to the table and used my dishes as inspiration. I transformed our dull dining room into a Spring fling!
This past weekend was another great one for the boobs…um I mean books!
I participated in BAM (Bust a Move) , a 6 hour workout extravaganza in support of womans breast health and Alberta`s cancer free movement. Not knowing what to expect for an early Saturday morning, my friend Heidi and I doning our supportive Pink gear made our way to the Edmonton Expo Centre with about 350 other women and 50 very brave men (who were also donned in pink) and prepared ourselves to Bust a Move!
This year for St. Patty’s Day we were invited out with some of our good friends to share in some Irish Stew and of course green beer! Along the way some very fun pictures were taken that started what I am now naming:
“The Great St. Patty’s Day Photo Debate!”
The debate started over two pictures that were taken. One was taken and photo shopped by me, and the other was taken and photo shopped by our friend Josh. Obviously I thought my picture was better, but Tyler and Josh thought that Josh had me beat! So we put it out on Facebook where I took a huge leap (and am still in the lead with “likes”). Tyler thought that was unfair as I have more friends that he does on Facebook.
So I’m putting the votes in your hands Blog world…
